8% of streets cause the majority of fatal crashes but does anyone understand that making those streets safe requires getting people out of cars? #VisionZero needs #VMTreduction, not flashing lights.
I'm just amazed that this kind of thing requires a planning project and funding approval (road diet from a 5-lane stroad to have buffered bike lanes with flappy sticks and be just a 3-lane stroad.)
#transportation utility fee as a replacement for the #gasTax is a terribly unpopular idea because we're tired of subsidizing #carSupremacy. They're just not on a path to solvency, as long as they keep leaving the entire network open as a free-for-all to any driver who wants to cut through the city in 10 different ways, when there are zero safe and comfortable / dignified routes for most people to bike a couple miles to school or whatever. How do they expect that catering exclusively to the most damaging and costly way of using the #transportation system would ever pencil out?
@enobacon That's it. That is the crux of most every problem with cars. Also, if you use the car as intended by the manufacturer, you and everyone around you will die or be seriously injured. Instead of always trying to go faster from A to B, let's make all the A's and B's and all the other destinations closer together.
