@TomF so now that the poll is over, was I correct to assume you were using this to take a red/green colorblindness survey or is there something else going on here
@aeva Right. I was interested in how many people were R/G (although I already know what the population stats are, and can guess roughly my followers' demographics), but also how many were aware of the problem.
@TomF@aeva As is more common, I'm slightly red insensitive but have no trouble distinguishing red and green. A better test (not better, but different) would test thin red lines on black, or cyan on white, or yellow on bright green.
Pure red error messages on a black console window particularly suck. Ideally, red fonts should always include a bit of green to help it stand out from a black background or from other black text on a light background.
As many spotted, this was a somewhat infamous 2015 game between the Bills and the Jets in the "Color Rush" series where they celebrated 50 years of colour TV by wearing garish colours.
In this case, one team is head-to-toe in red, the other head-to-toe in green. The problem is that if you're red/green blind, they look nearly identical.
The results are that a whopping 14% of respondents are red/green colourblind. R/G blindness is most prevalent in white males, and let's face it, that's going to be most people who follow me. But it's usually stated at 8% of white males, so 14% is nearly double that - very surprising!
More pleasing is that 74% of people realised WHY I was asking the question, which means they have some awareness of colour blindness, which is excellent, and much higher than I expected.
There are a HUGE variety of types of colour blindness and many grades from slight to full. Every human perceives the world differently and classification is complex and difficult.
Many people have no idea they are colourblind, which seems incredible - but how would they know? A good place to start is the Wikipedia page, and if you can't see what some of the images are trying to be examples of, then it may be worth getting a more rigorous test. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_blindness
@TomF In grade school I remember getting tested by the nurse. The nurse herself skipped one or two saying there was nothing there. 🤦🏻
I tried to tell her I saw a number, but somehow it didn't occur to either of us that she might actually be somewhat color blind.

funny thing is, even though I'm red-green colorblind I can tell those colors apart pretty well (though I can't tell 100% if the non-red ones are green or grey or maybe even somehow brownish - I guess green though)
