    whiskeybravo,

    @chris what you need is a dog 🐶 👍

    @whiskeybravo We lost ours the day before the first leg of our move last month. I have a feeling we'll be looking to adopt another next year when life calms down a bit.

    fatherroderick,

    @chris The upside: fewer alligators during your walks.

    @fatherroderick Ha! There is that

    blit32,

    @chris A gym membership. My wife and I go to classes in the evening and it a nice way to keep active and spend some time with each other.

    chris,
    @chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

    @blit32 We did that for years. It honestly wasn't until I quit and just started walking that I really got healthier. While it isn't out of the question when we move, I'm still going to try a few other things first.

    amberhinds,

    @chris We've lived a lot of places with snow. You just have to make yourself do it. Invest in good boots and snow pants, bundle up, and go. Also, you could get cross-country skis or snow shoes.

    @amberhinds @chris Downhill skiing has typically been the only thing that’s interested me for outdoor activity in the winter. But that sport has really become cost prohibitive.
    We have some really good multi-use trails around our new place though, might give snowshoes a try.

    amberhinds,

    @shawnhooper @chris

    Snowshoeing is fun. I'm way too risk-adverse to ski down a mountain. 🙀

    @chris We bought a treadmill because our weather isn’t great for winters to walk too. It’s a smaller one and doesn’t take space.

    chris,
    @chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

    @jnv We have an exercise room in our building that I need to look at. I think that will do it too but it's been so long since I've used one it just feels weird.

    @chris I imagine the weather difference is a bit like Dutch winter vs Dutch summer. If so, I totally relate. So easy to stay active in summer, inviting sun makes me want to go out. Winter, total opposite. Makes me want to stay in and get cozy / stuff my face.

    @chris Oof. That's cold... Anything below +5C and I'm already staying in except for a few short walks with the dog, haha.

    @chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

    @dvk Ha! It's going to take some getting used to. It's still +25C or more in Florida. Going to -20 will be... challenging. We'll adapt, it is just a shock to the system.

    @dvk @chris I switch from my bicycle to my wife's elliptical trainer when the weather is unwelcoming. not the same, but that way I can convince myself to still get a bit of exercise ..

    @dvk@toot.re avatar

    @futtta @chris Yeah, true that. I have an indoor direct drive trainer I can place my road bike on and it helps. No way I'm doing more than an hour 2-3x a week on it though.

    @dvk @futtta Our new place is a smaller condo so we probably won't have any equipment in the unit. There's a nice exercise room in the building though. When we're finally up there full time I'll give it a shot. Reconciling my habits for now is hard though.
