You can be fired from your job for any reason or no reason.
Supreme Court Justices could shove bundles of cash into a duffel bag while snorting cocaine off of a naked 12 year old on a Russian oligarch's yacht and the worst they'll get is a strong condemnation from legal scholars.
Not so funny story. A federal judge named Walter Nixon (yep, Nixon) was convicted of a crime and sitting in jail collecting his salary as an Article III judge because he refused to resign.
He was ultimately impeached and convicted by the Senate. He complained (and it went to the SCOTUS) that he was effectively tried by the judiciary committee. For boring legal reasons, he lost and we finally stopped paying him.
