macOS Sonoma drops support for another wide swath of Intel Macs

As the last Intel Mac is finally replaced, software support is gradually fading.

_keith_smith_,
Azimech,

@arstechnica This kind of crap is why I don’t want to deal with ANY Desktop OS Infrastructure centered around Processors that they depend on & can be changed at the CEO’s whim, including system upgrades.

@arstechnica I wish there was more backwards compatibility for Intel MacOS software on Silicon MacOS. As a game developer, the new Macs can be difficult to develop for when the majority of Windows and Linux machines are x64

@arstechnica there are products at work I have to use my intel Mac for instead of the AS Mac I use for everything else because they have docker dependencies that no one seems bothered to compile AS-compatible images for. If you only issued me a new Mac with the newest OS, I could only do half my job at best, and AS has been around for YEARS now.

mazz,

@arstechnica Ironically, the whole reason I switched to Apple devices was their comparative longevity.🤷‍♀️

@arstechnica Big tech making sure perfectly serviceable hardware gets into the landfill.

@arstechnica Why does this look like windows vista with a dock 😑

godzero,

@looopTools @arstechnica
Because Windows has a dock (called taskbar)?

@godzero @arstechnica the taskbar (pre win 11) and macOS dock is not comparable at all, in my opinion. It was the look of the widgets and stuff, that brought (bad) memories of vista.

@looopTools @godzero @arstechnica Vista’s widgets were in a sidebar. You may be thinking of 7.
