Ok, I've got a question: if I'm writing alt text for a meme, how much can I rely on its memetic nature? As in, can I simply describe something as "The Geordi LaForge no/yes meme" or should I not assume that anyone who is experiencing the meme knows the meme? Is describing the meme too much a paternalistic assumption that screen reader users wouldn't know what the meme was, or is it necessary information, even though people who don't use the alt text would be given no further context?

@intransitivelie As someone who is meme-ignorant and often seeks additional context in alt-text, the extra explanation would often be helpful. But there is something to the fact that too much explanation ruins comic timing.
