And none of their followers mentioned it in the many replies.

@FreakyFwoof Eh, I’m not so fixed on it one way or the other. I can see the value, but equally I can see that 99% of its use on Twitter is to shit on the quoted tweet - for good reasons or not.
And honestly, most of the time I saw it used over there, it only served to amplify the voices of the Worst People.

@DJDarren Here though, it de-threads things and so people could be shitposting about you and you'd never know it. Not all clients support it, so there could be entire conversations about your own posts you'd never know about. That, is a shit-show.
I did see someone once note that if it must exist, then it would be better to have them flipped, so quoted post at the top, added comment below. This flips the dynamic and (in theory) makes it less likely that the quoter will be doing so in order to dunk.
Don’t really know what point I’m trying to make here because I’m tired as shit and my boss is droning on about some stuff he uses to keep his patio free from grime.
But it strikes me that you can’t complain about how hard it is to use Mastodon, while completely ignoring a well advertised feature that makes accessibility possible for a huge swathe of users.
It’s fine. I get the impetus and I don’t disagree. But like I just said to the ever wonderful @FreakyFwoof; 99% of QTs I saw on Twitter were used to shit on the person being quoted. I don’t want to have to ride the opt-in button like Carl Cox’ crossfader, because some shithead and his buddies have taken it upon themselves to tell the world they think I’m a cunt.
@DJDarren Yeah I hate dunking too. People who I generally liked did, at I think the culture on Twitter brought out the worst in them.
As people have pointed out, it's possible to QT here, and people do it in one form or another. Overall I think the culture on Mastodon (at least in my circles) is generally less toxic.
And honestly, it might not change. The biggest shitheads will have stayed on Twitter, or gone to Bluesky. But I dunno, it just feels like we make it work anyway, so why introduce a vector of attack that has proven to be so efficient, regardless of its original intention.
