David Chapman has a couple web pages documenting his experiments with SAD lamps.

The conclusion seems to be that the effect increases with increasing lux, and the usual SAD lamps aren't nearly bright enough.

He wrote about using much brighter lamps, including some stadium LED lighting available on Amazon.

@cstross modafinil works, although I’m not sure I’d say I ‘recommend’ it. You, too, could trade happiness for awakeness.
Also, the flaming hoops one must jump through to get the stuff in Australia are bad enough. I am disturbed to contemplate what grim bargain the NHS might want.

@thorne Don't want it; (a) I enjoy being asleep, and (b) I'm on enough meds as it is that I don't need to add more without an overwhelmingly good reason.

@cstross @oddhack Do you use or need to use CPAP? The biggest surprise for me was going from getting up two to four times a night to use the bathroom to not getting up at all.
