I fucking hate Signal
This buggy half-proprietary mess secretly logged out my matrix bridge, refuses to receive any messages on my phone with #nogapps, drains the battery anyways and thus made me miss out on important messages
All while claiming to be open and free.
Fuck the Signal Messenger LLC, shove your Google dependencies up your ass, fuck your "no-third party clients" policy, fuck your proprietary backend component, fuck your phone number grabbing scheme
If you don't control the servers, you don't truly own your conversations.
Sure you could self-host a Signal Server (unless they hold-back the current version of the code hmmm 🤔), but then you'd be the only user of that network and unable to communicate with your friends who are on the "main" network.
This is a prime example of a walled garden. If they decide to make parts of the app proprietary they can dictate that chance.

by using Signal, you're essentially using a proprietary service that gives a shit about it's users.
Don't donate to Signal if you really care about software freedom.
If possible migrate to something federated, like @matrix
Thanks to @mollyim for trying to fix the mess Signal is.
For those who don't know Molly, it's basically an "illegal" (against signal tos) fork, which adds back features the community requested, removes google deps and Signal's crypto scam, and most importantly adds @unifiedpush support.
If you really like Signal for some reason go donate to the Molly devs instead
