@henryiii shouldn’t it be much faster to run Docker on M1 for Linux ARM builds? Because that’s by far the slowest build for me. 🤔

@hynek @henryiii maybe try a uname -a inside the container to check that it's not running linux amd64 (instead of arm64 aka aarch64) via qemu for some unexpected reason (e.g. bad choice of the base image).

@ogrisel @henryiii it totally runs on qemu because GHA doesn’t have Linux ARM builders; hence my hope/question

@hynek @henryiii I don't think docker relies on qemu to run a linux/arm64 container on macOS/arm64 (M1) host, the fast macOS hypervisor should be enough (I think).

I think docker only uses qemu if you run a linux/amd64 container image on macOS/arm64 host.

@ogrisel @henryiii I think you might’ve fundamentally misunderstood my original post? Currently I build Linux/arm64 on Linux + qemu like everybody else. My hope is we might use Docker on macOS/M1 instead.

@hynek Using M1 cuts about 25 minutes from the @pillow CI, some jobs are twice or thrice as fast! Especially helps PyPy 🚀
