@geoObserver Actually, PROJ has a much longer history than that. Frank took over an already pretty much mature project whose origins date back to 1983. See @hobu slides: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lk7v7jbxrta2dfh/history-of-proj4-foss4g2017-howard-butler.pdf?dl=0

@hynek Quite amazing . PROJ builds are 3.7 faster on M1 than x64 Mac: https://github.com/OSGeo/PROJ/pull/4020

Oh no, our https://github.com/WhereGroup/spatial_filter plugin has had broken saving for many months after a bug in QGIS was introduced.

We only got two, late and frustrated reports by random luck alerting us to an issue. Surely many users dropped the plugin because it was not working right :(

EvenRouault,
@EvenRouault@mastodon.social avatar

@cartocalypse None of that would be possible without the @qgis paid bug fixing program, which would not be possible without all donations it receives and sustaining members who contribute to its budget.

Remainder for those not aware: you don't even need a local installation of GDAL to convert between geospatial formats (not all GDAL supported formats, but a large subset). Just try https://gdal3.js.org/

Offline .vtpk in

Starting from 3.26, QGIS now supports (Vector Tile Package) files out of the box!

This is great news, particularly for users from , since this makes it possible to use the @datagvat open government .at vector tiles directly, without any fuss: โ€ฆ

@underdarkGIS @nyalld @datagvat This is like File Geodatabase support. The OpenFileGDB driver in GDAL master now supports new data types (int64, DateOnly, DateTimeWithUTCOffset) added in ArcGIS Pro 3.2 that aren't supported by the released versions of the proprietary SDK. Or relationship management that isn't available in the basic licensing tier of ArcGIS but is available out-of-the-box through GDAL and QGIS

Are there Korean users here interested in better support for vertical transformations in PROJ for Korea? EPSG references a KNGeoid18.gri grid file, to transform between KGD2002 and KVD1964 height , likely distributed by National Geographic Information Institute (NGII). If it can be provided under one of the open licenses listed at https://github.com/OSGeo/PROJ-data, it could be integrated into the PROJ-data repository, and be usable by PROJ, @gdal, @qgis etc. Korea lacks an entry in https://cdn.proj.org

Shout-out to @tudelft3d for delivering a 108 GB large GeoPackage compressed down to 18.8 GB (https://3dbag.nl/en/download) with @sozip !
Just open @qgis , Add Vector Layer, Protocol HTTP tab. Paste "https://data.3dbag.nl/gpkg/v20231008/3dbag_nl.gpkg.zip" and browse through it as a server-less feature server (better zoom in at the city quarter scale)

When mentionning that GDAL at the NumFocus summit has support for ~ 250 file formats, non-geo people were like "what's wrong with you geo folks ?". What's wrong with us indeed ? The equivalent of GDAL in neuroimaging has "only" support for ~ 10 formats (https://nipy.org/nibabel/). Guessing: perhaps because creating a medical imaging processing software requires some kind of certification & high costs whereas you just need a handful of devs to create a average GIS with its inhouse format?
