Juno for YouTube 1.1 is now available! 🥳🥽 The update addresses a bunch of the awesome feedback folks provided, like adding quality selection, captions, volume controls, as well as a bunch of handy bug fixes and quality of life improvements!
@christianselig Huge fan of your other works! RIP Apollo. Ive been interested in making something around yt to have subtitles work during PIP mode (on macOS), was wondering if you had any advice, as I know you can load out subs in Juno
@christianselig I know firefox has their own custom implementation, so figured maybe I could do something similar to whatever magic they do, seeing as the native version probably as you say won't do it.
For juno how did you implement subtitles? Is it some of your own custom code? Or are there already packages out there? Thx
@christianselig The app is so good overall, but there’s one thing that I can’t tell is a me thing or actually something to improve. I tend to browse my subscriptions page, add things to my watch later list, and then watch from there. Juno seems to not let me tap the three dots button on videos to save them. Right now I’m saving from Safari and watching in Juno, which works but isn’t ideal.
@christianselig I had tried to use Juno while cooking a few times and thought there was some bug with the playback. Now I realize it was a gesture. Much better to use now! Just a bit of follow up feedback, skipping ahead without any feedback in the UI will always feel like a bug. For ex. YouTube’s ability to double tap on the sides to skip forward shows a skip HUD on the video.
@christianselig Heck yeah! Looking forward to trying it out. Also, thanks for removing the "pinch anywhere to scrub” feature. I tried using Juno while folding laundry a few days ago and it was just complete and utter chaos.
@christianselig When using the URL scheme and a video is currently playing you have to close that video before opening a new one. Is this the desired behavior?
@christianselig a minor thing, can we not hide the window bar by default outside the player mode? Given YouTube’s page layout, it’s a little hard to get the window bar to show up without tapping on some content…
@stroughtonsmith@khaost I dove head first into SwiftUI for this project so I think I'm just using persistentSystemOverlays on the whole window, but seemingly not very intelligently
@christianselig The scrub anywhere was driving me insane. 😅 So much I was considering finding objects I could hold between my index finger and thumbs while watching youtube videos. There were so many occasions where I was watching a great video and out of nowhere it would scrub to the end and I'd scream. 🤣 Excited to use 1.1.
