@jamesthomson on the flip side, when you get a new lense, you’re going to be blown away by how much more vivid colors are.

@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@jamesthomson oh no man! Our bodies are betraying us.

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@pixel Sounds like a Wednesday to me!

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@jamesthomson yup. I’m over here debating calling in sick because apparently I threw out my back in the middle of the night while doing absolutely nothing. Wtf.

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@pixel I haven't done that one in a while, but I’m going to be extra careful sneezing for the next 24 hours just in case…

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@jamesthomson so is surgery the only option?

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@pixel Yeah, but on what timescale I don't know yet - months, years, or decades.

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@jamesthomson ah gotcha. Maybe there will be a better treatment by then 😊

@pixel Depressingly familiar!

@jamesthomson for what it’s worth, my mum just had both eyes done. It was quick, went smoothly, and now she doesn’t need glasses. It also took many years between diagnosis and them needing to be done. I know that doesn’t help with dealing with it all. But I wanted to give you a positive data point. :)

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@ryanbooker Glad to hear, thank you!

woolie,
@woolie@mastodon.social avatar

@jamesthomson @ryanbooker one of my friends recently got both eyes done. For weeks he would just stare at things and mutter “the colors are so vivid”. Mind you, he is quite the stoner.

dcrooks,

@jamesthomson Oh I’m so sorry to hear that.

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@dcrooks Thank you!

@jamesthomson Hoping for the best and a quick recovery. FWIW removing cataracts was one of the best medical things I’ve ever done.

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@WarnerCrocker Glad to hear, thank you!

@jamesthomson geez James, you just can’t catch a break when it comes to your eyes can you! So sorry to hear this.
I see from some of your follow up that you think you are some way away from surgery which is good, but when the time comes at least it’s a pretty straightforward procedure these days. Both my parents had it done and were amazed at the results.

Meanwhile… Jack Burton just looks that big ol’ storm right square in the eye and he says, “Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it” 👊😅

Eggfreckles,

@jamesthomson I am sorry to hear this.

(Good thing you didn’t get the extra expensive Apple eyes after all.)

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@Eggfreckles Indeed…

@angry_drunk@union.place avatar

@jamesthomson Sorry to hear that dude. FWIW, my mother just had cataract surgery. Two hours of surgery over 2 days, a week or so of mild recovery and she sees better than she has in years. And that's with our crappy U.S. medical system :)

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@angry_drunk I look forward :)

mzarra,

@jamesthomson Speaking from experience, Cataract surgery is amazing :/

@jamesthomson oh no! On the upside, you’ll soon have bionic vision pro eyes to use with your Vision Pro

ianbetteridge,

@jamesthomson Oh bugger. Sorry to hear that.

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@ianbetteridge Thanks, my eyes seem determined to betray me one way or another!

@yetzt Double irony!

jonathanreed,
@jonathanreed@techhub.social avatar

@jamesthomson Ah no. Sorry to hear that James. Hopefully you’ll be able to get surgery before it gets bad?

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@jonathanreed Yes, I hope so!

This post is obviously an open invitation to the rest of us to enjoy the schadenfreude of your first-world problems.

Invitation accepted.

@jamesthomson Sorry man, that sucks. HOWEVER, let me tell you, modern medicine is amazing. I developed cataracts at a super-unusual early age (18 & 21, respectively). Docs couldn't explain why it happened so early. So I’ve had artificial lenses in since then, and have had FANTASTIC vision. And according to the docs, my vision will likely not deteriorate as much as others, as these artificial babies have a 100yr+ life. (I'm now 50, and ZERO deterioration since 21). Science FTW! Good luck, James!

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@leoncowle That is excellent, glad to hear!

aleen,
@aleen@wandering.shop avatar

@jamesthomson hate this for you. Bodies are so irritating sometimes.

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@aleen I just hope to live long enough to replace all the annoying bits with cybernetics!

genecowan,
@genecowan@mastodon.social avatar

@jamesthomson My dad, after years of hemming and hawing, got his cataracts surgically removed and now has better vision than he had before. He's ecstatic about it.

pfernandes,

@jamesthomson Sorry, James. Hope your treatment goes smoothly.

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@drdrang Thank you. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a small annoyance.

Drwave,
@Drwave@mastodon.social avatar

@jamesthomson @drdrang you’re a trooper, buddy.

In that doesn’t translate, I mean it as a compliment.

joesteel,
@joesteel@duck.haus avatar

@jamesthomson I’m sorry, James

jamesthomson,
@jamesthomson@mastodon.social avatar

@joesteel Thanks, for now it’s just another annoyance to add to the list.
