What do European people do with old laptops and computers? Do they send them to some recycling centers or exchanche for a discount when buying a new laptop?
@yura business computers are often sold to resellers who sell them on websites and eBay. Private computers are hoarded because it’s annoying to throw away.
Can confirm, my work just gave me a server once because they knew I was working on hosting a website and they were like "We've got this old machine we don't use".
It's annoying to throw tech away when it's so cumbersome so it just gets traded down.
@yura yeah, electronics sellers are required to take old devices in for recycling, and you can also take them to recycling centers. my first computer was 0€, made with scavenged parts from one of those recycling centers, my dad installed fedora linux on it
On the one hand, we can drive to waste disposal areas where we can recycle almost everything.
On the other hand, we can call for disposal trucks, but for those you need to have a minimum amount of trash to throw away.
The trucks depend on the area where you are can be free, free for once in a time frame or always require a fee. If you turn in your trash yourself, it depends on the kind of trash, but usually is free for common household generated trash (like electronics, old furniture, ...)
