I’m always surprised when I go into an old house and find a dumb waiter that's still working because I would have stopped working a long time ago if everyone called me that.

My favourite bastard vending machine: Ravenous after a morning of touring on bicycles, we roll into a tiny French village & find a fresh bread vending machine! How French! No other source of food. Bastard machine wouldn't accept my Australian credit card, leaving me salivating & hungry.
