Yesterday, for the first but probably not the last time, I had the very american experience of getting a “we’re in lockdown I love you” text from my kid. then, the very american first thought of “well I gotta go down there because we learned from uvalde that the police will be useless”.
It was a false alarm, thankfully. And I was in bed with COVID. But made me realize that on a gut level, I know we cannot get out of this mess with cops and laws.
