I’m really enjoying the new justification developing for “meh, you’ll all die anyway”

old version: precautions are imperfect, so no covid precautions, most infections don’t result in death or disability, therefore mild, and long covid might be serious but there’s no fix, so best just not to determine whether symptoms are related, and not everyone gets it anyway, like 1/20 to 1/5 each infection, at least the first time they get covid, and since no one else is treating this seriously, it must not be serious and you can’t avoid it forever so why try to avoid it at all, sure it’s cumulative damage but if i really thought about this maybe i’d have to wear a mask and that’s uncomfortable, so clearly i shouldn’t, and since i shouldn’t, it must be over, and everyone must be having all these clots due to learning loss, amen.

new version: other viruses have post-viral syndromes associated, and since we didn’t do anything about that before we understood it, even though lots of people did and said avoid infection and everything is airborne, that doesn’t count because i didn’t learn that as a kid, and my doctor doesn’t know it because if they did they’d be embarrassed to wear a mask, so therefore it must be wrong, and maybe some pointy headed nerd knows how to avoid this but i don’t, except with the simple cheap interventions being suggested, that would reduce viral spread overall and therefore post viral syndromes, but the people suggesting all this sound crazy because they’re wearing masks and the cdc doesn’t say it’s an issue, and surely they’d say something if there was something, and so the crazy mask people must not know what they’re talking about, so maybe this IS just the flu and even if the flu also disables people, it would be super depressing to think of all the infections i could’ve avoided in the past, so post viral syndromes are just part of life, and it’s all the same and see we told you it was just something to live with and get used to, and life is risk and what are you gonna do, just never leave the house?, so probably best to go ahead and get it because covid isn’t unique
