Every recipe online: “Here's a quick and easy recipe for pancakes! But first, a few paragraphs about my personal life and family, followed by 12 paragraphs detailing my entire life history with this food.”

@killyourfm just append the URL of any such recipe to https://cooked.wiki/ to strip out all the BS and provide a nicely rendered view

@eliasp WHOA! Today I learned something awesome thanks to you!

@killyourfm There’s a bunch of sites that will strip the crud out. Brb. Looking at bookmarks.

@bashfulrobot yea this came up in an earlier reply. It’s awesome! Already started an account and added a few recipes.

i've heard someone actually wanted to create a platform for "open source" recipes.
kind of like a source control system with a web interface, for food instead of software.
one of the goals was to get rid of all of the ads and SEO poisoning found on recipe websites.
but the created stopped working on it after many people who put recipes with ads and SEO on websites started harassing the author on social media.
i would love to see this idea get resurrected

@Haijo7 @killyourfm make it text only and recipes submitted via some git repo.

although a system like that could use git under the hood, the average person doesn't know how to use git. To make it more user friendly it'd need some kind of web interface or mobile app.
and i think text wouldn't work well.
if it were to use a predefined set of ingredients and steps, you'd prevent people from writing SEO and allow recipes to be translated into other languages more easily. only the predefined steps and ingredients would have to be translated in this case.
making something like this decentralized and federated could work as well

@Haijo7 indeed that sounds better but a LOT more work and including images or anything else requires infinitely more storage. @killyourfm

@killyourfm it's not just those - it's everything now, all SEO shit to pull in clicks

@ThePlant I feel like ultimately we can just blame google for this.

@killyourfm SEO has done irreparable damage to the Internet.

@serebit 100% agree :(
