The report said 11.5 million relatives & caregivers provided more than 18 million hours of unpaid care last year. That amounted to a full-time job for caregivers who spent an avg. of nearly 31 hours a week caring for a person w/Alzheimer's or dementia."
@CindyWeinstein So excited caregivers in the home were finally to get help and then as the big infrastructure plan dwindled # down, I knew it would all go away. Wondering when the economy will be looked at for the brain drain and loss of jobs for increasing numbers of adults in families who have to leave jobs in order to do caregiving. Losing jobs means reduced lifetime income & leads to reduced social security payments in senior years. There are huge COSTS to “saving money” by not helping.
@cobalt. Thank goodness #Biden hasn't given up. As you point out, though, the need is tremendous, and not supporting #caregivers is, again as you point out, not only inhumane but irrational.
@CindyWeinstein I sure hope the support efforts can include direct money and benefits for caregivers besides so much money to research and policy and advocacy efforts. Am a bit concerned that much is weighted to Alzheimer’s in particular. Does that mean strict diagnosis labels determine support?
@cobalt. I don't know about the #caregiver support in this budget item, nor do I know if the funds are only for #Alzheimer's research. It does look quite specific.
