@kcarruthers Truly appalling so many family members are delegates. The GOP has no class.

Hard to imagine the Stones on tour in 2024 and they play the stadium in Glendale AZ tonight just a mile or so from my home. Saw them 3 times, starting 1969. DECADES ago! Not one ounce of interest for me now but for a good 45 years they really were the world’s best rock ‘n roll band. In honor of their history, here is a favorite early song. #RollingStones #Stones #Arizona

Palo Verde flowers on a bench - these trees on Phoenix are full of tiny yellow flowers. I was sitting on a light aqua-colored bench at the Banner hospital downtown as a tree was “snowing” flowers. Too bad I’m allergic to this pollen! It was a short break during a procedure my son is getting.

Last summer in Phoenix I was just sure the record-breaking heat wave killed off the many decades’ old rose bushes out front of my home. Despite my aggressive pruning and spray treatment for a fungicide for thrips, Voilá they are doing fine! Never saw 6 full blooms at once in a giant cluster.

An image of Texas troopers currently dragging off peaceful protestors from encampment. Troopers surrounded small circle of tents. Then protesters have encircled the troopers. Looking pretty grim there. Fearful of deaths coming in this assault. Follow @oconnell as he posts from there.

@cobalt@awscommunity.social avatar

In order to get a Sheriff bus of arrestees out, the cops had to leave their positions to escort it away. And now students have retaken the encampment area and are continuing the actions.

My English cucumber problem. Soooo I have about 20 of these, ripe/organic/wrapped. Need to know ideas on how to eat/cook/freeze. All I can think of are vague canapés and quiche. I also have a lot of bell peppers, onions, squash, green beans and grape tomatoes. Hmmmm.

cobalt,
@cobalt@awscommunity.social avatar

@KatM Ok this idea sounds easy enough to try and I’ve seen 3 recipes here in. Moments that call for fresh dill. I’ll be off to the grocery soon. TY!

there are D.C. scum calling "pro-HAMAS protests". the minute anybody in the admin parrots that shit, all bets are off with .

so all liberals on here screaming no matter who, y'all better get your asses in gear and tell every single person in the White House to drop that shit immediately.

am not some magical Cassandra. i have +30 years experience with the treachery of Democrats against antiwar activists.

don't wanna lose in November? PAY ATTENTION.

cobalt,
@cobalt@awscommunity.social avatar

@blogdiva It SHOULD be in most public universities but I think a decade or so of violent militarized police may have had the intended toll. The protests sure were slammed down. As were the protests.

Sooooo, is this mess going to turn into something edible? What I’ve been craving so much is hard to find in the US Southwest but I got the taste when I lived in Beaumont TX next to Lose-e-anna. Took Zatarain dry mix but sautéed sliced Andouille sausage with onions, celery and then added garlic and drained diced tomatoes with chilies. It smells amazing. Saved 3 cups white rice from last night for this. Photo is taken way early in simmering. I never tried to make it B4.

cobalt,
@cobalt@awscommunity.social avatar

@BruceHarry Oh my it did turn out! You are right @davepolaschek using Zatarains as a base mix is terrific. So, I sliced 12 oz Andouille sausage and sautéed with diced onions and celery. Added 7 oz Rotel diced tomatoes with chilies and minced garlic to sauté. Lots of water to simmer, then add the dry mix. Cook 25 minutes and serve over extra white rice.

As served, red beans and rice with Andouille sausage slices served atop more white rice in bowl. Closeup.

Industry experts worry about Arizona homecare reimbursement, which could lead to higher costs https://www.abc15.com/news/local-news/industry-experts-worry-about-arizona-homecare-reimbursement-which-could-lead-to-higher-costs

cobalt,

The average caregiver in Arizona gets about $15.30/hr. There are NO benefits such as health insurance, paid vacation or days off, no holidays off with pay, no overtime, etc. if a client goes into a hospital for a few days or more, no pay. How many people can afford to take this kind of work? Which IS work and can be difficult or challenging work. It’s only getting worse as more people need care and the population ages. Train wreck in slow motion here.

You can never have too many flowers. Or the aroma of flowers that drifts out 25-40 feet away as these star jasmine vines do. I finally found my jasmine fertilizer so the pots just greedily soaked up very nutrient-rich water. We went over 100° today! I read that using this fertilizer will help prolong blooming. If scientists figured out commercially viable ways to capture scent for release later, I’d recommend the scent of jasmine. Really stays in my memory.

So I woke up today with a rather cynical and grouchy mood because for whatever reason a thunderbolt must have hit me to remind me just how similar these days in the US are to SEVENTY years ago when many of the young adults and teens were aware of unjust wars, the military- industrial complex, the manipulation of laws in finance and in student loans to make Capitalism the US Golden Calf, propaganda commonplace, privacy illusory, environmental pollution 1/2

For the record
Migraines make dementia worse
Migraines can cause seizures
Migraines are painful

Seizures make dementia worse
Seizures can cause migraines
Seizures are painful

Dementia can be difficult to bear and interfere with all daily living needs. Dementia can cause deep depression, anxiety, stress and despair.

For the record, my son is living with all three of these conditions. Every day we all hope for those pain-free and joyful moments and hours. We’re all still hanging in there!

No photo today but picture this: on patio with my legs up, enjoying a great hamburger with a brewski, looking out across the pool which is now ready to go whenever it is hot enough. Ahhhh! It’s 85° now almost 7:30 pm. Got my shorts and sandals ready to go and it’s so pleasant right now.

Remember I said all this when I start to complain mightily in another month when the next heat wave comes. The weather right now is just perfect. 😍

Omigosh the Star Jasmine vines are growing and blooming! I’ve waited 8 months for magic to happen. I think in maybe just 3 days the plants will be covered in tiny white flowers and maybe on a week there could be 1,000. The aroma is incredible. I only smelled it once in San Diego about 8 years ago and have wanted to try growing it all this time.

A whole lotta these made the base for my spaghetti sauce. Blanching and peeling took a long time. The pot began cooking a few hours ago and I just added in the pressure cooked carrots, celery, onion, green pepper, fresh basil and garlic. Another hour at a low simmer and then puree time. I freeze 2 cups at a time in ziplock bags flat. That way I can thaw the right amount quickly. Happy time.

The same tomatoes have been cooking down in a large pot for a couple hours. You can see a few whole tomatoes but they are blending down. No water was added. Just a pretty view by iPhone of the brilliant color.

The NY Trump trial starting next Monday won't be televised, but here's what I predict we're in store for.

The trial will be running mon-tue-thu-fri. Unless granted an absence by the judge, Trump apparently must attend this criminal trial every day it is in session.

Reporters will be permitted to live report from the courtroom and overflow room. So there will be a continuous stream of information (mostly textual, I assume) pouring out, that will accompanied by drawings of participants and other extras.

To what extent there will be wall-to-wall coverage on the news networks is unclear, but the trial itself is expected to run six to eight weeks or so.

Buckle up.

@cobalt@awscommunity.social avatar

@lauren @tessarakt I’m going to rely on the great @GottaLaff for pulling together a thread that puts out the play-by-play. She often has quick comments from other reliable folks who are on-site as the trial goes on
