Radical_EgoCom,

BREAKING: McDonald's workers in Oakland have walked off the job on strike. After their store was transferred to a new franchisee, their accrued paid sick leave was zeroed out. They weren't compensated or told. One worker was relying on paid leave for hernia surgery.

@Radical_EgoCom My Granddaughter, a Student, was working at a McDonalds Franchise here in NZ. The labour practices were very bad at this particular Franchise. Luckily she had joined a Union (Et Tu) They soon sorted things out. She received the money owed and future employees got a better deal.

@Radical_EgoCom there’s no way that’s legal. That’s considered pay for services already rendered. Why are they striking instead of suing? That seems like a labor board issue.

bufalo1973,

@Radical_EgoCom Aaaaaaand that's why a good social security system is better. In Europe you don't have "paid sick leave". If you are sick you stay at home and BY LAW you keep your pay. And no medical expenses normally. And when there are medical expenses are far smaller.

ablackcatstail,

@Radical_EgoCom That's just next-level evil.

Hernia surgery is not cheap. I've had 2 in the last year. $2000 total out of pocket.

@Radical_EgoCom that's a giant fart smoke. Fuck that, when you buy the franchise the accrued sick leave and shit should be figured in, just like any other liability. But no, just screw people out of it

@Radical_EgoCom solidarity with these workers. Sick leave is incredibly important.

clutch_reboot,

@Radical_EgoCom This is absolutely terrible. But this is the exact kind of hold we give corporations. We're told not to unionize and most people I talk to have no idea about their local representatives.

Unionizing is NOT taboo. Its survival at this point.

Also, I'm not trying to say presidential candidates don't matter but look at your local reps people!
