the only US citizens Americans should be taking protesting cues from are PUERTORRIQUEÑOS.

why? Puerto Rico is bound, muzzled & knee-capped by the USA constitution YET our people took to the streets, IN THE ISLAND & WORLDWIDE, and changed the government in 12 days of non-stop protests.

PROTESTS WORK.

so much so, USA media wants you to forget those 12 days of protests when writing of the global unrests of 2019.

WE ARE MORE AND WE HAVE NO FEAR;
somos más y no tenemos miedo.

another sea of humanity on el casco de San Juan, in front of our capitol hill, our Congreso.
Bad Bunny, members of Calle 13 including René Pérez (in the blue cap), who called for the protests; and Ricky Martín standing next to him.
a show of protests signs from those 12 days, from left to right: 1. FUERA POLICÍA; police get out the governor was infamous for his abuse of power and treating police as his private army 2. ABAJO EL PATRIARCADO; down with patriarchy protests had been happening for ages en La Isla but what ignited the 12 days of rage were leaks of chatlogs where Roselló & his cronies slandered and slurred many activists and at one point even joked about throwing some of them in jail so they could get raped. 3. BLACK & WHITE PUERTO RICAN FLAG is both our distress flag and the symbol of the independence national movement that was led by Don Pedro Albizu Campos and which was a straight offshoot of our abolitionist movement (and hence, led by Afroboricuas). 4. SOMOS MÁS Y NO TENEMOS MIEDO we are more and we have no fear.

i take great offense when i have gringos come with their cowardly gringoladas to tell me there is nothing they can do about changing the fucked up policies of their gringo administration.

MY FATHER DIDN'T SURVIVED USA' GENOCIDAL POLICIES IN PUERTO RICO FOR YOU TO TELL ME THERE IS NO HAPPENING IN .

my father was 11 when he survived la Masacre de Ponce

just because it was carabineros, it doesn't mean they weren't following gringo orders... 🧵

here's a recap of Telegramgate
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telegramgate

but that's not even half the picture of why these protests happened.

we had Hurricane Maria and the 4645, the total number most Puerto Ricans recognize but Rosselló wanted covered up & USGOV still downplays in their typical administrative style of

then there's the fucking WALL STREET JUNTA an actual dictatorial junta but not of military men but capitalist vultures

YOU DO NOT GET TO DOWNPLAY DEMOCRATS COMPLICITY IN , when Native Americans and African Americans have the CVS of receipts compared to Puerto Rican's laundry list of injustices accumulated since 1898.

you do not get to tell a Puerto Rican, and an afroboricua one at that —regardless of our scholarly background— that what we are seeing is no or that there is nothing poor old Joe Biden can do about it.

I REMEMBER WHAT YOUR DEMOCRATS DID TO DON PEDRO ALBIZU CAMPOS

SOMOS MÁS Y NO TENEMOS MIEDO became the de facto slogan of that summer of 2019.

WE ARE MORE AND HAVE NO FEAR.

it's ok to fear the unknown of protesting the very government and political party that you support.

BUT THAT'S WHAT CITIZENS IN A DEMOCRACY DO!!!

look around and count all the things billionaires have paid their subservient politicians to deny us: health care, food, housing, mass transportation, free k-PhD education, civil rights, human rights, so they can make their war money

LEARN FROM PUERTO RICO's summer of protest. learn of ALL the protests that happened worldwide that year of 2019.

PROTESTS WORK. it's how you force the politicians who claim to represent you to do so.

PROTESTS WORK. because the #1 purpose of protest is to vanquish fear. we protest to be heroes, not to condemn ourselves to cowardice.

"They took so much from us, they took away our fear"

embrace your heroism.

organize.
collectivize.
protest.
change.
win.

@blogdiva I have a question based on dates. Were these "Democrats" the same that left the Democratic party and joined the GOP, the folks that were labeled the Dixiecrats? This switch happened in the 1960s or are we ignoring the historical shake up of the two parties? I'm curious.

i do know that @bitterseeds it still was under Harry S. Truman.

if you do not know of all the eugenics experiments USGOV has conducted on Native American, African Americans, Puerto Ricans, Mexican Americans and the on-going genocidal concentration camps they keep at their borders with Black & Brown peoples and the fact that the 13th amendment of their so-called abolition of slavery has not one but SEVERAL loopholes, please go read-up on that.

American imperialism needs no party affiliation.

@blogdiva Oh. I'm aware of all of that. But I asked a specific question as I was curious. You didn't answer it. It is what it is I guess.

@blogdiva Puerto Rico should be granted statehood if the residents want it.

blogdiva,
@blogdiva@mastodon.social avatar

at this point? most people have NOT voted in most referendums as a form of protest.

USA needs to pay us reparations for many atrocities, including ecocide and continuing the LIE that WE TAINOS do not exist; doing so deprive us from Native American and Originarios protections under Spanish, USA and International law.

that "statehood" wouldn't change the reality of USA's genocidal and colonialist project in our island.

before status, what most Puerto Ricans want now is payback.
