@lauren it seems like Wagner has now halted their advance on Moscow; we'll see how long that lasts.
No matter how they try to spin it, I don't see how this doesn't seriously weaken Putin domestically. Someone stood up to him; his aura of invincibility and iron grip on control has been shown to be illusory. His only option is to purge Prigozhin and destroy Wagner, but for whatever reason he seems incapable of doing so.
Maybe it won't be Prigozhin, but it's just a matter of time until someone else stands up to him.
@lauren To be fair, the submersible story did come to a close. Parts of the submersible were found (the controller was found, intact, on the seafloor), which indicates that the craft imploded. They haven't found the bodies, but it's doubtful that they would even qualify as bodies by that point, after being smashed by the unrestrained might of the ocean.
The coup just got lucky enough to hit the news right after that, giving the news media something new to latch onto.
EDIT: Turns out that the controller photograph was a fabrication, but it remains that parts of the submersible were found.
