A URL with "/cgi-bin/" in it

@mcc the only way to top this is a url that ends with ".dll"

@mcc sounds like the very early days of setting up ones apache server...🤔 😉

@mcc /cgi-bin/sql.php3?sql=Select+&;+from+users+where...

@mcc Oh the nostalgia. What about a url with a tilde followed by the owner's username?

foolishowl,
@foolishowl@social.coop avatar

@negative12dollarbill @mcc At least that was intentional.

negative12dollarbill,
@negative12dollarbill@techhub.social avatar

@foolishowl @mcc cgi-bin is unintentional?

foolishowl,
@foolishowl@social.coop avatar

@negative12dollarbill @mcc It's not supposed to be directly accessible in a Web browser, right? I thought that was a classic configuration issue.

foolishowl,
@foolishowl@social.coop avatar

@negative12dollarbill @mcc Edited on checking your bio to see you're a web developer and I'm not sure if I'm wrong or if you're yanking my chain.

negative12dollarbill,
@negative12dollarbill@techhub.social avatar

@foolishowl @mcc You're the one making the extraordinary claim here dude, it's your Russell's Teapot.

mcc,
@mcc@mastodon.social avatar

@negative12dollarbill @foolishowl I always thought cgi-bin was supposed to be the special directory where the +x bit is honored. Because it would be bad if random files in any old directory started getting executed.

mcc,
@mcc@mastodon.social avatar

@negative12dollarbill @foolishowl If this comes out of a misunderstanding where that directory's supposed to be actually invisible and like, aliased from somewhere else, then that misunderstanding would have to predate 1994 when I was introduced to the concept

negative12dollarbill,
@negative12dollarbill@techhub.social avatar

@mcc @foolishowl Yes. Also in the absence of AJAX, how is the data put out by my CGI script supposed to get back to the browser?

mcc,
@mcc@mastodon.social avatar

@negative12dollarbill @foolishowl Used to each query to the CGI script would return an entire fully rendered HTML page
