Hey so I'm traveling to go see the eclipse tomorrow, so if anybody else is going to be on the Sun this weekend lmk and we'll meet up

@mcc scientists strongly caution you do not go to the sun without wearing special glasses

@mcc sun's a pretty big place. which spot will you hang out near

mcc,
@mcc@mastodon.social avatar

@ChateauErin Since the Sun is larger than the Earth it seems like logically there must be only one part of the sun where the eclipse (IE moon occludes earth) would be visible

Maybe this is a bad assumption

@mcc uhhhh...well, it's a partial occlusion for sure as seen from the sun. What portions of the sun would see that occlusion sound like simple geometry but today is not a simple geometry day for me

@ChateauErin oh no. I don’t have any way of solving this. Please don’t let my child ask this…

@ChateauErin @mcc it did remind me to show him why the length of days changes by season using a globe and flashlight (we had talked about this on the way to school this morning and I couldn’t figure it out for a bit and then decided that I needed props to explain).
