I am losing my fucking mind.

@ramsey Any Xcode updates around or being installed at that time?

Also what’s that bottom bar in your terminal? Looks really cool

@NanoSector That’s the status bar in iTerm2. I honestly don’t remember how to enable it, but if you go to Preferences > Appearance > General, its location can be set with “Status bar location,” and then, if you right click on the status bar, it presents you with a context menu with options to configure its colors and what pieces of information it shows.

@ramsey Check $PATH?

ramsey,
@ramsey@phpc.social avatar

@Synchro It exists, but it’s the macOS stub at /usr/bin/m4.

I also have it installed via Homebrew, so I’ve added that to my PATH temporarily, so I can build something. I’m not sure what’s up with /usr/bin/m4, though. I’ve re-installed the XCode tools, rebooted my laptop, etc. /usr/bin/m4 still gives me that message, though.

Coda…

@ramsey sometimes I have to open up Xcode for some bs to get around that

@skc You might be onto something. Maybe there’s something I need to agree to.

@linc I already have the XCode Developer Tools installed.

@ramsey Ah, sorry. I did as well but mine went missing in the upgrade and I had to reinstall. I got the same nonsense message about Software Update but that flow didn't work until after I upgraded the dev tools.

@ramsey I had the same problem 4 months ago when my work laptop upgraded to Sonoma. The amount of searching it took to find that link the first time was infuriating. It's in this directory https://developer.apple.com/download/all/?q=Command%20Line%20Tools%20for%20Xcode

@ramsey I have no idea why they are forcing logins for the xcode CLI tools now but it sucks and they implemented it badly to boot.
