youtubers stop using the term "asset flip" for reusing an enemy sprite or model recolored for a different enemy challenge

words have meaning and that is not even remotely close to what that term means

@eniko Do the kids not say "palette swap" anymore? I use it quite a bit but it's usually around normies and they seem just as puzzled as when I talk about SMS.

@indigoparadox @eniko I think "palette swap" kinda fell out of favor together with the hardware that supported them (and game engines not having a simple mean to simulate that functionality). It's been almost three decades since LUT-based graphics hardware was mainstream

@gabrielesvelto @indigoparadox kitsune tails' engine has palette swaps >_>

@eniko We should call any YouTube video using the term "asset flip" an "asset flip".

Look, you're just using the same dialog with some different video capture behind it. Clearly this video's an asset flip.

@eniko I should do an "asset flip game jam"
The only rule is that you have to use pre-existing assets and you can't modify them except for like, in-engine scaling/palette swaps.

@foone this sounds like it could be a lot of fun
