#30daysOfBiking carried partner and kid home from after-school errands on the xtracycle. Really should be taking the tandem+trailerbike as better able to carry them both but partner doesn't like the forced pedaling of being chained to my crank. 10yo kid prefers the supercargo, like an absolute princess, but I don't have a great rear seat (footrests) arrangement for partner on that. 🤔 Maybe there's a madsen with electric stoker treadles in my future. Or xtracycle the edgerunner...
@enobacon Tail bikes allow the stroker to set their own pedaling pace. They are all single speed though (that I've seen) and designed for kids, but might be an option. I often hook a trailer to mine.
@bluGill on the tandem, with 6-speed trailer bike attached, the kid gets the trailer bike bcs she's half mom's size. Kid also doesn't like the chained-together cranks when she's riding the tandem alone with me (and she sometimes does antics to the pedaling too 🙃) so I really need some freewheel in the stoker crank, but that is complicated by the left side timing chain
20x2.35 schwalbe pick-up max load 275lb (weird that the 27in says 363lb in the same width, I thought 20in wheels were stronger, more distribution easier on the tire though...) I'm 200 and the bike 100-ish, with passengers and cargo exclusively on the rear wheel, there's only maybe (assuming 50/50 but probably 40/60 or more to the rear) 125, not the 200lb capacity that xtracycle rates the cargo at (and the pick-up didn't even exist when this bike was built, big apples were rated 200-250lb iirc)
@Karstan it's so flexible with the chromoly stays, you would probably need the platform to be lateral/torsional stiffening maybe with some suspension builtin. It really waggles when loaded much behind the axle
@Karstan I already need to grind the sharpened spikes off from the pedal strikes (they keep knifing my shins), would need suspension fork and somehow lifting the back to get that spindle higher.
