Well… just watched ST:Discovery series 1. Too much looking like it's just come from the TNG films & ST:Picard. A certain ship, shown right at the end, got a very early refit. Klingons should be as in TOS.
Updating things to take advantage of what can be done now while remaining true to the original is the right way.
I'm reminded of Dax commenting on the tech being retro (DS9 “Trials and Tribble-ations”) and of the bridge recreation in TNG “Relics”.

Heck no! We're going to be true to the vision of the 1977 movie, emulating the look of cathode ray tubes and having few buttons in the front, and drab colors.

Good point, but I'm speaking to the temptation to modernize the vision, whether it took place in the past or future. The fact that there is technology far more advanced than our own is the common theme to both.
@RL_Dane I kinda like this bit of consistency in that IP actually. Computing in that universe just kinda sucks in general, except dot the droids for some reason…
