Got some clips designed and printed to mount my radio in the Honda Odyssey. It’s a good fit! Now I just need to figure out a solution for the mic.

I played in a local "mini" disc golf tournament yesterday. I had gone to the course to play a few holes with my family, but ended up making a last-minute decision to join.

I'm super glad I did, but playing all of the holes in the heat and humidity wore me out! I'm still feeling it today.

brainofdane,
@brainofdane@hachyderm.io avatar

@danirabbit there's a pretty lively disc golf community here, and we have a great course, but as soon as May/June hits, it's unbearable to be out in the heat!

This was my first tournament ever, and I got 80 on 19 holes, so not great, but not bad.

Do you play a lot these days?

brainofdane,
@brainofdane@hachyderm.io avatar

@danirabbit oh dang! Look at that! And in a PDGA event, no less. I'd love to hear if you get back out and start playing again. I bet the courses in your area are gorgeous!

that warp scales used pretty simple formulas:

c=wf^3 for TOS (e.g. warp 4 = 4^3 the speed of light
c=wf^(3 1/3) for TNG for warp factors 1-9 (but not beyond 9)

Thinking about picking up a used PS3 somewhere for cheap. I’ve been getting the itch to play games I never got to play because I didn’t own one.

Some of the best games I played were the Uncharted series when I borrowed a PS3 from my friend.

brainofdane,
@brainofdane@hachyderm.io avatar

I also found out that you can’t play the physical discs from PS3 on a PS4/PS5, and you have to pay a subscription fee to have access to the classic archive.

I’m too much of an old curmudgeon to resort to that yet. I’d rather buy physical media, put it in and play it.

From the perspective of a person who likes narrative games, enjoys a challenge, but doesn't want gameplay to be a chore, would be a good purchase?

Some of the descriptions say that it's filled with "hardcore" platforming. I like the look of it, and I love a good story, but the "hardcore" aspect gives me pause.

brainofdane,
@brainofdane@hachyderm.io avatar

@danirabbit lol, thanks! I've heard it used in a sentence with "gayming" 😂 .

I'm glad there are settings to make it the right amount of challenging. I used to feel bad about that, but some modern game developers just want people to enjoy their game in whatever way makes them comfortable, which is fantastic!

brainofdane,
@brainofdane@hachyderm.io avatar

@joel oh, good! So, similar to Guacamelee where there are some screens that if you fall into the green goo, it just pops you back on the platform you jumped from?

I'm currently exploring the possibility of using AnyType as my personal organization system, and I like the idea so far.

I especially like the fact that it's E2E encrypted and works on Linux. Very cool.

brainofdane,

@RL_Dane it's usually compared to Notion or Obsidian if you've ever heard of those products.

Apparently, "most" of the source is available with a custom open-source-esque license. I think it uses IPFS for data syncing between devices.

Finally got my de-bricked and working again.

Had to purchase a custom-ish eMMC adapter off of that scary retailer in China, and it took nearly three weeks to get here XD

Also got a webcam for it, and excitedly set it up, but... I can barely see anything, because of course, webcams are pretty wide-angle.

I designed a printable 3D model of the kids' beds from Bluey! This was super fun and rewarding as my preschooler has a bunch of the Bluey character figures and wanted to make their bedroom. I used stills from the show as reference, but proportioned it to fit the figures nicely.

I'm impressed. I've only mastered some simpler techniques in some CAD programs. Something like that looks to be out of my depth.

My wife and I are considering a trip this year to Barcelona with our two kids (11 and 14 at the time of the trip). First time for 3 of us to travel to Europe.

Does anyone have recommendations or thoughts? Assume we've researched most of the major tourist attractions. I'd love some local insight.

Also considering a train trip from Barcelona to Paris, and then flying back to US from Paris.

My neighbor gave me these two derelict machines. They’ve been sleeping with the critters in the shed for the past few years with no climate control. I’m going to try to clean them up and check for leaky capacitors before attempting to revive them.

Any bets on them coming back to life? 🤠

I'm trying to envision a OS designed for users who are visually impaired.

What if there was a super simple OS designed with strict resource limitations that optimized feedback through an audio interface instead of a graphical interface?

brainofdane,
@brainofdane@hachyderm.io avatar

@CharismaticBatman I love the idea of a a monochrome interface, but I would push this even further to an OS that has NO graphics, and optimizes speech synthesis and other forms of audio feedback.

I always see screen readers shoe-horned on top of a GUI designed for sighted users. Maybe non-visual users wouldn't want an exclusive interface, but I wonder what advancements and developments can be made from designing a purely audible OS.

It's funny to me that is my #1 featured hashtag on Mastodon.

Do I really talk about it that much? It must have been because of the time I started experimenting with it in late 2022.

@royal 😂 😂 😂 I hope so! I've been reading some tutorials and watching some videos. I like the concepts and the syntax. I'll probably use it for a few personal projects, and then tuck it into a cozy place in my heart too.
