Do folks in other countries know where we are talking about when we refer to specific USA states (I'm in Michigan) or should we always include the country as well? (I'm in Michigan, USA)

I guess, the name Michigan is well known (as most US state names - only the abbreviations are sometimes cryptic), but sometimes, things can get confusing: When I read "Here in Cali", I first think of the city in Colombia until I realise, this doesn't make any sense.

We might not be able to find Wyoming or Nebraska on a map (only: somewhere in the US, not on the coast(?) ), but you don't really have to explain, unless it truly matters to the toot.

I mean: We eurocentrics aren't any better: I never write "Berlin, Germany" or "Zurich, Switzerland" - always just the name of the city.

@JeremyMallin I would recognize the names as US states, but I wouldn't be able to place them all on a map. I do know where Michigan is, though! Kinda... 😅

@schoudaan

I know, Michigan has roughly the form of a hand.
