@gimulnautti @markmetz Aaargh! This misuse of the Cyrillic alphabet is so irritating! It took me some time to understand why one of the military hats has the name of the Ukrainian state digital services app Дія...

@kallekn
I can't stand it either; it's highly confusing for anyone who reads Russian or another language that uses a cyrillic alphabet. Plus, it looks downright stupid.

@Eetschrijver @kallekn @markmetz Very good point!

Actually people from Eastern Europe and Russian people who escaped Putin would perhaps be even better at spreading this meme than Americans.

But now they can’t, since it they would look like idiots. What a shame.

@Eetschrijver @gimulnautti @kallekn
Well, I can’t make apologies on behalf of the cartoonist, the point he’s making is pretty clear to Americans.
(who, admittedly, don’t know the nuances)

@markmetz
Well, it's fine, I guess--for an American audience which for 99.9% knows zilch about other languages. 😅

@markmetz @Eetschrijver @gimulnautti Actually, no. 1 in 5 Americans are not native English speakers, so at least 20% have a working knowledge of at least one other language.

@Eetschrijver @kallekn @markmetz Great cartoon even with the typos. And happy we are able to do this ”both-and” discourse here, because too often pointing out something that could be better is taken as an insult diminishing from what was good. And clearly this is not the case in this situation.

@Eetschrijver @kallekn @markmetz I tend to bring this up with my kid often when situations like this occur:

We humans have this strong illusion, some people call it ego, that we do everything for a reason. But in reality we mostly act on simulations of reason called emotions.

Emotions unfortunately represent binary on/off rather than complex situations like this. So it’s really easy to to get tripped by your own mind, because u lost the feeling..
