Apparently a common vegetarian substitute for the shank bone on the Seder plate is a roasted beet, so I got a beet for tonight because where the fuck was I supposed to get one (1) shank bone, so now I'm thinking about whether or not to roast one (1) beet

@sofiav is it a substitute because the red juice is like lamb's blood? Genuine question, not making a joke.

@Loukas I think that's the idea? Although the shank bone is traditionally just a dried bone, not a bloody piece of raw meat 🤷‍♀️

@Loukas it's all very metaphorical and shit lol 😅

@sofiav the shank was already a metaphor, so the beet is metaphor Inception!

@Loukas right?! 🤣 Like, there's probably a rabbi on here who could give me a 5000-word theological answer to each of these questions if I really wanted to ask, but I'm more interested in adapting the tradition into something I can do without too much headache. I like preserving the rituals up to a point, but I'm not actually religious so if I'm going to offend god by doing it wrong then fuck him tbh 🤷‍♀️

@sofiav yes, the fact that other people around the world and in the community are using the beetroot, or the shank, is the most important thing, rather than anything else.
