And if your prison system is more a place for slave labor doing the work of capitalism and not say punishing/correcting behavior this makes total sense 😉
@StillIRise1963 wondering if “poor” was the right word here, now. maybe “different” would be more accurate? (i.e. non-white/male/straight/christianist/rich/etc.)
@tantramar I think “poor” is right. It includes everyone and anyone without funds in a particular moment can be a victim of homelessness. If most only have $450.00 in savings, then that word makes the most sense.
@StillIRise1963 I’d imagine the ultimate goal is to turn them into criminals, put them in a private prison, and give a corporation money to house them so they can convert public money into shareholder dividends. The usual money public money laundering techniques that these people use.
@StillIRise1963 The supposed theory is simple - if you maltreat homeless people enough, they will magically figure out some way to not be homeless to avoid being tortured further.
Of course, almost no one becomes homeless by choice; and stress makes you stupid, not smart.
The real explanation is that in order to avoid thinking "There but for the grace of God go you and I," the architects of all this mess want to dehumanize their victims as much as possible.
Add in a healthy dose of toxic individualism (you have to do everything all on your own, with no help from anyone, or you're a bad person and maybe even a sinner) and you have the recipe for what we're seeing now. It's a sick situation.
