That happened to me last week, and since my wife was out of town and I lacked adult supervision . . .
The Ding-Dongs were better than I remember. I was pleasantly surprised. The Twinkies, however, were salvageable only with coffee as an ersatz tiramisu.
@annaleen I had the opportunity over this past weekend to have a Ding Dong and... it was not great. Also tried it frozen, also not great. My childhood desireable flavor memory was dashed to pieces.
@metagrrrl I suspect that I would have the same reaction ... what I probably want now is an elevated Ding Dong-esque treat that's made by a nerdy confectioner who sources their flour and chocolate locally and whips their own buttercream
@annaleen@metagrrrl Have you had the Mostest cupcake from Noe Valley Bakery? It’s more of a Hostess Cupcake than a Ding Dong, I’m afraid, but they are quite delicious. When we got married, we served these and a few other cupcakes from NVB instead of a cake.
@annaleen@metagrrrl They have a number of yummy flavors, but I will always bring home the trio of Mostest, Red Velvet, and Lemon if they are not sold out.
