I truly hate to say this as I absolutely adore Star Trek.
But I’m trying to watch the first episode of the final season of Discovery.
45 minutes in and I’m horrified at what I’m watching.
I’ve had major ups and downs with this particular series.
But the non stop out of place, way overdone action sequences.
The constant unfunny quips, the off putting direction and camera work.
It’s all just too much for me.
Damn.
This is the complete opposite of what I love about Star Trek. 😲
@Dennis5891 when it started, I was so hopeful that it would be better than the films. Especially seeing Michelle Yeoh showing up as I’ve been a massive fan of here since the 90s.
So I wanted it to be good, but it’s been a real letdown. Every time it seemed to get a bit better, it would take a massive dive in quality.
But I don’t think it get any worse anymore.
I have looked into episodes and talked to people about it. The biggest gripe is that it does not feel like star trek. They have one long story through the entire series, with bits of things in between.
But for me and others, star trek is and should be episodic. Each episode is something new, and it reflects the spirit of star trek, exploration. If there is a continuing story, it takes place in the background with the item of the week as the main point.
@Dennis5891 I feel that a continuous story can work, but it has to be good.
This just isn’t. Far from it.
And yeah, it doesn’t feel like Star Trek at all. It’s just like a terrible action flick with a nonsensical story and paper thin characters.
Do give Strange New Worlds a try though.
It’s also different, but I really fell in love with it and actually care a ton for the characters. I really love it now.

Between all the explosions and stupidity I actually didn’t remember any besides a failed forced emotional scene at the end that didn’t work at all.
Slept on it and I feel even worse about it now. Pure garbage.
They should shoot Alex Kurtzman into the nearest black hole to redeem this series. 😂

It took me a long time to finally watch Enterprise, but when I finally did, I actually ended up really enjoying it. The first season was rather rough through.
Can't stand the new movies at all.
Gave Picard a chance. Was really disappointed with season 1, found season 2 to be the worst ST I've ever seen. Ended up really liking S3.
I really love Strange New World, despite a few shortcomings.
But this first episode of Discovery is perhaps even worse than Picard season 2... just wow.
