Outside the Fort Lauderdale courthouse earlier, was a small Palestinian demonstration. One was chanting “Palestinians need ‘their’ land back.”

I asked him if he understood that that’s how many Jews have felt for about 20 centuries. He started screaming at me, called me a “Jew-loving fascist” who was “ignorant of history.”

That sort of blithering isn’t helpful.

@shoq just horrible that history has been manipulated to be anti semetic like this

@shoq
Even the holy books paint the Jews as (repeated) immigrants to Israel rather than natives.
F.i. Abraham came from Ur in mesopotamia.

@Selena Which holy books where those?

@Selena Your motive in oversimplifing deeply complex history aside, sure, Abraham’s journey is one aspect of Jewish migration to the land, it doesn’t nearly encompass the entirety of Jewish history in the region. I was just interested in which holy books you were referencing.

@Selena And BTW, while there has been is much DNA evidence linking Jews to the Levant, the modern population of Palestine, including Arab Palestinians, is the result of centuries of migration, settlement, conquests, and interactions among various peoples in the region. So people should be mindful of “immigrant”demonization in this conflict.

@shoq @Selena

There are genetic studies showing Palestinians and Jewish people are close, too.

@paninid @Selena Yep. But there is still this terrible information out there that neglects to mention that none of this “land” belonged to anyone but Ottoman empire and its designees. The only truly indigenous peoples there, even according to the UN, were Jews. The Palestine of the 1940s was settled almost entirely by migrating Jews AND Arabs.

@shoq @Selena

I have always been more fascinated by the history of Mizrahim than anybody else in the region.

Those - literal - brothers of Christ have seen some shit.
