I've been playing the planet crafter game and it's a lot of fun, but...

  1. I think I am nearing the end and I'm sad. I wish there were more planets (like, campaigns) but I'm glad it isn't procedural.

  2. the lighting calculations are a bit fubar. That could be a lot better and it'd make the game prettier, but I don't know that it would make it much funner 😂

@demofox I enjoyed it but honesetly found the endgame kinda a drag compared to the rest, especially the insects stage where it's hard to speed it up until almost the end due to the rocket for it not unlocking until extremely late.

I also REALLY wish the logistics and genetic recombination to make your own creatures wasn't locked like...15+ hours into the game, they were the best parts and they were only RIGHT at the end :/

@raptor85 yeah I think they could tune the game a bit better, agreed.
I hope they get enough success to make a sequel and get the opportunity to improve things a bit!

@demofox I hope if they do they make a much larger area with more of the exploration and have the logistics start early game, you'd need a crowbar to pry me away from a satisfactory/factorio like game with a more solid goal and exploration.

@demofox looks [on a single-image, totally-uninformed glance] like they maybe relied very heavily on a basic, non-shadowed skylight set to a very bright and vibrant orange to fill the shadows [cast by a single directional light] with some colour…?

@MartianDays yeah for sure, and as you enter different areas or the time of day changes, the fog color and lighting changes, but the same techniques are used.
There is also weird stuff where the atmosphere changes as you terraform the planet. Somehow there is only actual darkness after the planet has air. It should be the other way around. Air causes scattering and makes GI when there was dark in the vacuum!

@demofox is slightly triggered

@MartianDays and yet, while fixing that stuff could make it an incredibly pretty game, and maybe help sales with incredible screenshots... i don't think it'd make it any more fun!
But hmm. Maybe the increased immersiveness would be more fun?? Starting to wonder :)

@demofox increased immersion definitely helps the “fun” variable; issue is, though, it’s very hard to quantify.

Also, it's very similar to the subnautica games if you liked them. It is less polished and different in certain ways, but it's definitely a cousin to subnautica.
