something I like to ask people when they say "ugh, the homeless are so dirty" is how long could they stay clean without shelter, plumbing, laundry, toilets or regular garbage service

@sugar@InternetEh the thing about these people is they just can't imagine being without any money at all, because ofte the reality is they do have the support network to prevent from total homelessness. I got into an argument on tumblr, while I was homeless, with a guy about how fucked up it was to present himself as an example of a worthy benefits receiver because he was cleaned up and worthwhile to employ. His long post about surviving homelessness summed up he spent a few months at friends on benefits, not missing a shower. His other recent post was a christmas photo taken with google glass.
They have or can access places that will feed them, let them shower, store their stuff, let them cry. A home to them is a place they pay full rent for - they're so divorced from losing security, stability, and love that they don't think of that being what their things provide for them anymore.
@sugar@InternetEh Of course sometimes they're real assholes who probably would be really homeless if they lost everything because no one would really support them and they've used up most of their obligations to others, but those guys have their own piece of work going on
