Every once in a while, I have to go to my kitchen and tighten the knob on my Tofu press, like some kind of medieval torture device.

It makes me feel uncomfortable, and a little hungry.

    @andycarolan I was unaware a tofu press is a thing and I feel like I need one 😆

    @Jennifer I like the one I have, it gets a lot of moisture out of the tofu.

    @andycarolan I found a bamboo press and got one. I've been using a somewhat half assed method to press mine, I bet this will work a lot better. I'm glad I saw your post!

    @Jennifer Oooh, glad you got one! I hope you get on ok with it. I use mine all the time :)

    @andycarolan Reminds me of stretch & fold I need to do for making sourdough bread 😅

    andycarolan,
    @andycarolan@social.lol avatar

    @ovan I've never made Sourdough, but I do find that kneading regular dough is almost therapeutic to me 😅

    ovan,
    @ovan@mastodon.social avatar

    @andycarolan I totally get that, it is indeed therapeutic. You might be missing out on the sourdough benefits though (and it's not hard to do) 😉

    @andycarolan@social.lol avatar

    @ovan I need to find a vegan solution to making the starter... then I will give it a try! :)

    ovan,
    @ovan@mastodon.social avatar

    @andycarolan Ah, but it’s just water and rye flour to make the starter (and some patience)

    andycarolan,
    @andycarolan@social.lol avatar

    @ovan I might struggle with the patience part haha. I will give it a try, thanks!

    @andycarolan I never had a Tofu press… what’s the advantage? (I usually get firm Tofu…)

    andycarolan,
    @andycarolan@social.lol avatar

    @yatil Well, it only works for medium/firm blocks of tofu. For me, this is like Cauldron brand (unsure if you get that there?)

    It just squeezes the water out, and allows for better absorption of flavours (if marinading)

    @andycarolan Maybe I have to try it out. We have the Taifun-brand tofu, which is firm. I never thought that they don’t marinade well enough (I press them manually like a cave man before marinating.) https://www.taifun-tofu.de/en/products/tofu-natur

    @yatil Haha, “like a cave man". I guess each brand differs, but if you squeeze/drain etc before use, I guess the end result is the same.
