@craiggrannell@sdarlington Always impressive how the EU bends over backwards to accommodate businesses, and people then complain that the EU was at fault for the stupid things businesses do to circumvent regulation, ideally once the EU clarifies that no, they don't consider those tricks to be in compliance.
@uliwitness@craiggrannell Many of these people are just opposed to regulating the industry entirely. Which would be a more defensible position if big tech didn't behave so badly!
We already have ECJ verdicts lying around, that when read strictly declare the USA unsafe for GDPR data, basically due to fundamental legal issues. Our politicians and industry do not want to really apply it, but it's just a question of time till the current DC-Brussels circumvention strategy lands before the ECJ again, and it's only a question how explicit the court will be next time in its opinion.
@lapcatsoftware Oh come on, Jeff – stop wading into this with your facts. Everyone knows the EU IS THE EVILZ and that poor beleaguered Apple is being treated totally unfairly by the big bad bloc of blue. Or something.
@craiggrannell That’s funny. “EU Compels Apple to Punch Itself in Face” is a great angle. It makes both Apple and the pundit seem really dopey. Double whammy. Is that guy still working for a VC company?
@callionica It really is quite something. I would hope Apple at least does understand how the EU works, but the evidence to date suggests that perhaps even it doesn’t – at least fully – and that its lawyers thought they could skirt around the DMA.
@darylbaxter I think I’ve reached the “life’s too short” stage. I unfollowed DF recently. I’m sure if there’s anything vital on there in future, it’ll be posted into my Mastodon feed or the excellent Michael Tsai will cover it on his blog. And I’ve just unfollowed Siegler too.
I’ve not got time for anyone who refuses to engage with the fundamental basics of the DMA and instead chooses to do little more than head down a xenophobic rabbithole.
@darylbaxter I mean, it’s not like there aren’t constructive criticisms to be made about the EU in all of this. It’s far from perfect. But that criticism cannot be EU EVIL BECAUSE STOPPING VIRTUOUS USA COMPANY DOING WHATEVER IT LIKES USA USA USA USA
@craiggrannell Him and others are a fading Apple-commentary breed from the mid-00s that have always done those types of replies.
It's also why I stopped listening to a certain Realay network years ago.
They have their own distortion field that a bunch unfortunately follow with blind faith.
