Let me disabuse you of the idea that a Martian colony is the way to save mankind.
Survival on Mars is 1000x more difficult with no free flowing water, no atmosphere, no ozone, no magnetosphere, much less solar radiation to power anything including biological life.
Choosing Mars is picking the absolute worst probability to beat gambler's ruin.
Even a 3' warmer Earth is better.

If the USS Enterprise found our solar system as an alternate system, with the 3rd planet from the sun 7C warmer, with life on it and everything else the same on all the other planets, what fucking planet would they pick for a colony?
But nope, Mr Modernity will absofuckingly decide Mars, even though any tribe on Earth would absolutely pick the Earth -- because they understand survival and modern humanity only understand big dick technology.
Even on a 3 warmer planet, you could like sensible early mammals, become nocturnal, and you'd still have air to breath, and ozone during daytime (making terrestrial life viable), a magnetosphere to keep radiation off of us and bits of life that can turn CO2 and sunlight into carbohydrates, fats and proteins, for no effort.

The process is going to kill lots of people, but it also stops dead the global economy. The unknowns are the options left as climate continues to evolve away stable+mild state.
Small scale societies, like humanity had for hundreds of thousands of years, can still manage, even city states if they can adapt to a mercurial landscape.
Even a 3C warmer Earth has: water
atmosphere
ozone layer
magnetosphere
biology that sequesters co2 (all photosynthesis)
minerals
a large library of life that might survive in refugia
Even a Star Trek civilization would choose a 3' warmer Earth over fucking Mars.
