In case you're wondering why I'm asking for more money (even though the current account balance is ~ € 1,300):
The are two long-term commitments that metalhead.club has made: The first one is to not let metalhead.club disappear from one day to the other. I committed to run the server for at least 3 more months after the first shutdown notice. (no need to worry - won't happen anytime soon ;-) )
The second is a yearly contract with our server location provider - worth ~ 160 € each month.
I really appreciate your work running this instance. I am happy to send some money.
I would be happy to help in other ways. If the admins wanted some @metalhead.club email accounts, I have an Office 365 tenant where I can host them at no charge.
@DXMacGuffin thanks for offering your help! Actually I'm running a mail server anyway - so server needed here. But I'll reach back to you if there's an opportunity to help with infrastructure :)
@thomas it's great that you're being transparent like that. We need reliable instances like yours to build trust in the decentralised system.
The hosting costs seem quite high though. At freiburg.social we pay around 30€/month for a vserver (not quite sure on the exact numbers). Is yours a root server?
@NiklasMM at metalhead.club we have our own physical hardware at a green energy datacenter - with DDoS protection and guaranteed 1 GBit/s uplink + 10 TB traffic. This comes at a cost.
Usually vServers or rootservers are much more affordable to a certain degree.
But: We're running on 72 Cores, 128 GB RAM and 8 TB NVMe SSD storage and are not charged a monthly bill for that ;-) + do not need to share resources and we can add more storage any time for a single payment.
@NiklasMM the setup was born right after the first big users wave, and while it sounds overpowered (and it is!), maybe we'll see another situation when all the power is needed.
@onkelmarkus this is due to a delayed invoice in February, which shifted the day of billig in such a way that I've received two invoices in one month lately.
Unfortunately the provider's invoice delivery is not accurate to the day, so it might always vary a bit.
@kris hi! It's not available. I thought about it but it's too specific to my own needs, so I decided to keep it for myself and not maintain it as a public open source project.
