Tiny Pi NAS is impossible to recommend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLZET7Jhza8

@geerlingguy I may have missed a video where you mentioned it, but why the third channel? Seems like a video that would perform well on the main. Either way, love the videos!

@richards the topic fits the main but there are different levels of production quality and until now I haven't had a place to post videos I know won't get "100k" level views but I still want to cover.

Also, third channel is where I can get a little wild with ideas and experiment without the main channel audience getting upset (and the algorithm punishing me for it)

@geerlingguy What I love about ARM boards is their low power consumption and the fact that you don't need any fans in idle mode. What I really hate is that there is always some compromise (speed of the NIC, availability of PCIe 4.0, USB Ports limited to 5 GBit/sec) holding them back. Even the most potent non-server FF board I know comes only with PCIe 3.0 and 1 GBit/sec NIC. I wish someone would make a "pull out all stops" board for enthusiasts. Hopefully, we can get something with A78/X1 cores.

@cloud_manul It could happen! I think we're getting there.

There's a strange convergence where Intel keeps pushing lower wattage (but not quite Arm efficiency level yet), and Arm keeps pushing higher performance (while mostly maintaining efficiency).

To the point I hope things can settle on an SBC that costs $50 or less, more along RK3588 performance level. To me, that's a sweet spot.

@geerlingguy I currently have a Raspberry Pi 4 with Open Media Vault installed on it. That mostly does the job. But I can't use that many HDDs on it since it can provide so much current. I'm not trying to put a bunch of drives on it; maybe two. That, and it gets pretty hot. It's in a case fan, but the power draw is too much with the included two drives.

@Ertain Yeah power for bigger 3.5" drives is always the annoying part :(

I would like to see a couple more options for the Pi 5 that are sized to fit bigger drives (like the Penta SATA HAT, but for larger drives, and you could buy a cheap acrylic case for the setup... or even a cheap NAS case from AliExpress or something and insert the board as a true backplane.

AdmSnackbar,

@geerlingguy @Ertain

Why are there no power supplies with at least standard molex built-in, though?

I mean, the Pi runs on 5V, SATA needs 5V and 12V, that doesn't seem too complex.
