@mentallyalex Mine is so close to Valentine's Day that it usually gets combined with that. So think charcuterie picnic. Fondue. Steak dinner with a good bottle of wine. That kinda thing.
@mentallyalex Well, I am lucky. My birthday is in the very heart of summer. (it's a few days after the solstice)
And over the last decade, I have adopted the simple habit of getting myself some food, some beers and lounge around somewhere where people are.
And those are the only days when I simply try to just be. No future, no past. I just sit, let the world wash over me and try accept - fully accept - the weirdness that is me and that I am STILL here.
Some people think it sounds kinda lonely, but I have people that will come around at some point or another. We'll laugh, we'll sing, we'll remember the ones that aren't there.
They never bring presents, because they know that they are every gift I can hope for.
@mentallyalex we usually go out to eat outside if the weather is good or get takeout if not. I try to take the day off work so I can sleep in. Usually watch TV all day and snuggle the cats and dogs. Just basically take it slow.
