I wonder how much more of this type of thing it's going to take before people just raise the Jolly Roger instead.

@mike they already have. As long as vpn subscriptions stay affordable, tally ho.

@mike I’ve already passed that point.

@mike As Amazon and other big tech companies are realizing, they can get away with pretty much anything as most customers will tolerate nearly any amount of abuse.

@mike it's already happening. A guy I know is buying some box from a coworker that is a couple hundred bucks and allegedly gives access to absolutely anything you want. Any channel, any movie, any streaming service, anything. I also have another friend who bought something similar it gives him a very rudimentary cable TV type interface, but he has access to absolutely everything.

For a one time fee. If it saves you a couple hundred/mth even if the box only lasts for a couple years that's big $$

@mike my wife and I already scaled back on subscriptions by a lot in favor of 🏴‍☠️ raising the flag 🏴‍☠️.

We’re keeping Netflix and Disney+ for now out of convenience, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we cancel all subscription services soon.

This streaming thing is getting soooo out of hand.

@reykjalin We still have all of our streaming services, but I don't appreciate paying the prices I'm paying just to have the rug pulled out and them demanding more to get what I had before or I have to watch ads.

@mike yes exactly! Or imposing new restrictions on accounts like the Netflix account sharing.

I appreciate the convenience which is why we were paying for a lot of different streaming services every month, but with how prices are constantly increasing my wife and I decided to pull the plug on that.

Now I’ve set up my NAS to automatically download and update the shows we want to watch via https://sonarr.tv and that’s working really well.
