A friend cam over yesterday to talk. At 65 he's decided to go to therapy to deal with issues that have gone unresolved in his life.
We sat and I listened for hours about his hopes and dreams and how the pursuit of them through out his life, has left him feeling dissatisfied and empty.
I praised him for his willingness to understand himself more and his desire to be at peace in the time he has left.
It's never to late to make changes. It's never to late to find peace.
@Mrfunkedude I started the therapy journey a few years back in my forties. It's been really helpful.
Right now I'm staring down the barrel of turning fifty within a couple of years. That feeling of "Have I wasted my life?" is real. As time becomes more and more precious with each passing year, it's important to realize that the only moment we truly "own" is the present one. Plan for the future, yes. Reflect on the past, absolutely. But don't turn those activities into obsessions.
@Mrfunkedude It's really helpful to remember this, especially for those evenings when I just want to veg out and watch a dumb movie or play some Minecraft. In the long term, no one's keeping score on how well I lived my life. The world keeps on turning and the most important thing for me is to just enjoy any moment I find myself in. Not everything has to be a self fulfillment journey.
That's what I keep telling myself of course. Some days I'm better at convincing me than others. 😅
