Very useful breakdown of what's going on in Georgia, where half the country seem to be almost permanently on the streets protesting.

And a report on diminishing press freedom and independent journalism in Georgia:

@fkamiah17 it is a country where the youth are pro eu and have little appetite for welcoming Russians into their country, but the older and elderly age groups still hark back to Soviet times. Like Serbia the Gov is very pro Russian. I nearly choked last week when the US said it was "deeply troubled" by the treatment of protesters and called for an independent investigation into reports of "harassment and physical assault". Does the US Gov not have any self awareness?

@Lassielmr Good grief I missed that bit of spectacular hypocrisy from the WH. It's a fairly common generational opinion across the former Soviet states, I think.
Which reminds me, have you seen Goodbye Lenin! ? A very sweet and funny film about this exact thing.

There is also a lot of influence exercised through the which I understand to be linked to the rather than the one in ..

imo this is a western coup operation ala Ukraine 2014. the law is similar to the US FARA law and intended to prevent what happened there (have you heard the Victoria Nuland phone call?) it would also apply to Russian meddlers.

these countries want to be independent so they can play both sides off each other for economic benefits. neither side wants that. please give the voices critical of your position from inside Georgia fair consideration.

A coup from either side ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled there for later this year would be wrong. Far better that the elections are scrutinised to ensure that they are free and fair. As someone who visited a score of years ago I can remember just how economically ruinous for the security policy of in the was. It destroyed the export trade in fresh fruit and vegetables to had relied on .

so then isn't the new law good? it's not Putin styled, it's what we have here. people who want to expose Russian influence here should support, not oppose, the law. of course there are agents from both sides trying to manipulate things. the only explanation for the spin is US govt doesn't want our activities there exposed.

Below is an explanation of some of the economics of the Ukraine coup (why US/EU keep doing this imo)
