There's so much that GenAI can do and so many threat vectors it creators, I'm not sure people fully appreciate how utterly broken it's going to make the internet.
Think about how many web sites you use where all they do is provide a place for human beings to upload things, and show them to you next to an ad.
Every forum, every social media, every search engine, SO, Quora, they're all just places that slurp up human-submitted content.
AI can now generate all that content. They're all cooked.
Most of the web is a connected series of mini-platforms that basically offer nothing but a restrictive interface to dictate what users submit, and make inferences about how it's submitted in order to do something novel in displaying it.
Publishers like news sites or The Onion or Cracked where the content displayed is developed in-house (though their use of AI is a whole other topic) may still have something to offer people.
But platforms are going to be overrun by stuff nobody wants to look at
Most of these sites seem to know it too. They're all making last-gasp efforts sell whatever they slurped up from users to AI tools to get one last paycheck before they are destroyed permanently.
There's all kinds of stuff AI is going to impact, all kinds of problems it creates, but let's not forget that "destroying virtually every web site you use" is a top one.
