Had an extra day off today, so I made some calls to find a new doctor and to deal with some bureaucratic things. 2 1/2 hrs later and I’ve made almost no progress.
Also, since when did medical services have a separate office “For Her” for gynecological services??? I thought I was a whole human. Not a person with some human parts and some, “For Her”.
I note, they don’t have separate offices “For Him”, because apparently all of a male body is considered to be normal human parts.

@samhainnight And it’s literally called that? Way to be welcoming to trans men who are already struggling with having to go to the OBGYN.

@WhiteCatTamer Yes, it’s literally called that! It’s wrong in so many ways! Like, if you’re losing weight & feeling tired & you go to your general Dr instead of “For Her” (Ugh!) but you feel that way because you have ovarian cancer, would the general Dr even know what to look for? Would they know to look for bone loss from too many pregnancies? Endometriosis causing digestive issues? Not to mention the dysphoria & misdiagnosis trans men would experience with these same issues under this set up!

@samhainnight I swear some doctors still ascribe to the “wandering womb” theory and just assume that half the time it’s out visiting friends.

And what if I have something wrong that affects my whole body, reproductive parts and all? Which office do I go to? Will the doctor be competent to know how it affects all of me? JFC, the casual misogyny in medical care is infuriating.🤬🤬🤬

@samhainnight California passed a law back in the early 90’s (I think) that made OB/GYN the primary MD for women. For everything.

@Catawu I wonder if that got repealed? Because that's never been the case for me.

@samhainnight It should still be on the books. You can demand it if you need to. Look it up. The Dr. who pushed the legislation was named John Mahnke and he was recognized for it at at awards ceremony in Sacto. No insurance company can legally deny you the services of OB/GYN as your main provider if you are a woman.

@Catawu Thank you!

@Catawu @samhainnight
Sounds good, but OBGs are, literally, only trained in one part of the body: the female reproductive system.
They do claim to be primary care doctors for women, but they have no training in heart disease, the #1 killer of women!

@merileedkarr @Catawu What I want is a general practitioner who also is knowledgeable about the female reproductive system, because that ought to be part of a general practitioner's knowledge, just like the male reproductive system is. I don't think it's too much to expect. But, of course, misogyny.
